A lot of people ask me about supplements and what they should take. Most buy something and have no true understanding or knowledge about what they're taking or WHY. If you understand the benefits, you can appreciate the product more and be consistent with it.
So, let's talk about BCAA's. What are they? What does it even mean? B C A A stands for Branch Chain Amino Acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. There are three essential amino acids our body needs- leucine, valine, and isoleucine- but our body cannot produce them! We can only get these from food and supplements.
When we eat protein, like chicken for example, our body breaks it down into amino acids, which are then absorbed into the blood stream. These amino acids are very important because they build and repair tissues... so after a workout, BCAAs are crucial for recovery!
BCAAs actually metabolize directly into muscle, rather than the liver- like chicken would. They can do 1 of 2 functions: either help build new proteins/muscle, or be burned as fuel to create energy. Regardless, taking BCAAs as a supplement is shown to bring improvements for athletes in terms of muscle strength, size, and recovery! This is mainly due to the fact that it keeps the body in a anabolic state, allowing the body to burn fat and not muscle.
So, when should you take BCCAs? Because research shows a decrease in BCAA levels in muscle tissue after cardio or weight training exercise, it's important to drink your BCAAs before and during your workout to prevent the breakdown of hard earned muscle and give you the energy to power through your workout! I will sometimes put it in my water and sip through the day, because I hate plain water lol so I enjoy the flavor it gives. (P4P's Chain Reaction- Fruit Punch is THE BEST!! I promise!) Use the code in my bio for a discount! 😘
