We need to remember this today (and for the next four years) the most. With a new administration that promotes hate, selfishness, exclusion, and negativity in general, we need to remember that sending that energy out in return will only do more harm than good. Today, my partner and I are driving from New York to D.C. for the #WomensMarchonWashington . We're extremely grateful to have the opportunity to go all the way to D.C. from Seattle. It will be a historical event. (I'll be sharing the march on our @wearewaterproof InstaStories, so please follow that account to follow along.) .
I march because I come from a family of immigrants. ➖
I march because I am a queer woman of color and I have the right to love who I want. ➖
I march because #blacklivesmatter .
I march because #climatechange is real. ➖
I march because, although we've come a long way in the fight for equality and justice, we still have a long way to go and we cannot afford to go backwards. ✖️ #whyimarch#womensmarch ✖️
America was stolen from Native Americans. America let black people be enslaved for years and wants black Americans to "get over it". America has persecuted LGBTQIAP people for so, so long. Racism, homophobia, transphobia, islamophobia are still major problems that a scary percentage of America wants to ignore and erase. --- America was never great, but I feel hopeful that my generation and allies from other generations will fight every single day to push us in the right direction to be a spectacular America for ALL. --- "Remember, tomorrow we are not crowning a king, or bowing down to a dictator. Tomorrow, our new employee starts his temp job. We're the boss." - @audramcdonald ---
Today begins a long journey to continue to protect & fight for human rights. Love is love. No matter your race, gender identity, or faith. Tomorrow we march. Don't lose faith today, gain strength in knowing that you do not stand alone in the fight. ❤️ #loveislove#lovetrumpshate#womensmarch
For most of my early adult life I had felt like I was born in the wrong time. I read the stories of woman going to Capitol Hill to fight for roe v wade and saw footage of marches in Selma and young African American children trying to go to school surrounded by armed guards. I had always felt that that was the time I should have been on this earth, fighting for more than just human rights. I wanted to fight for human decency. But then the election happened and the realization that we're not even close to showing compassion and respect to those we share this nation with became painfully obvious. It was a call to arms that many around this country seem to have also felt and we've been slowly gaining momentum since.
The day after the election my Dad told me that he fought for this country so that I could stand up for what I believe in and that he fully expected me to exercise my rights during the upcoming administration. Last night he sent me this message for a little added support. Love you too Pops ❤
